Good Start!
It’s a new year and a new Group of students from all over the world has arrived on our shores, eager to learn the ways of the bush. Right off the bat they were surprised by a big male lion sauntering down the road, roaring impressively to advertise his dominance! After this exciting start students were settled in to their rooms.
The first week was started off with a series of game drives to get in the spirit of things, Elephants were everywhere around the campus. On the second evening we had an awe inspiring sighting of four lionesses and their cubs of varying ages playing and sleeping in a dry river bed-18 lions in total! Amazing! (Thanks for the pics Dorte!)
The camp has also been visited by big bull elephants on two separate nights. We were also lucky enough to experience our first thunderstorm of 2012 - we sat on the veranda and witnessed lightning ripping through the night sky asunder as Mother Nature brought some relief to the bush in the form of rain.
Students were also introduced to Guiding and the aims and principles of this career path, the responsibilities and rewards. Next up was a first aid course, an important addition as help can be far away when needed in the bush! Here students learned to treat everything from a bruise to a broken bone in an instant. As the course continues we wish all the aspirant guides well and the best of luck!
