The Bushwise Hospitality Orientation Course started with quite a flare with the local staff singing and dancing as the vehicles arrived at Mahlahla camp. Angela, the head trainer for the hospitality course, and Cobus the guide trainer, greeted the new interns with sugar topped bush cocktails before leading them though to Mahlahla camp for the needed paperwork and tour.
After settling in and meeting their room mates, the team head down to the fire to chat and get to know each other under the African stars for the first evening. Angela led our multinational group from South Africa, America, England and Sweden through a few team building exercises to break the ice and then they enjoyed a meal, hosted by the Bushwise staff. Tomorrow the roles will be reversed and between lectures the interns will then switch places through the course to host their colleagues so that they can hone their practical skills and be taught more. They have an action-packed two weeks ahead of them with lodge tours, wine tasting with local experts, reptile park visit, Kruger trip and hospitality tour. Not to mention bush skills and drives and of course key lectures on orientating the interns to the life and work they should expect in the hospitality industry in Safari lodges.
