The Bushwise courses are run in the Limpopo province, in the north-eastern region of South Africa, an hours drive from the quaint town of Hoedspruit. Located in an area renowned for its biodiversity, dangerous game reserves and dramatic scenery of the beautiful African bush, the campus has the mysterious Drakensberg Mountains as a stunning backdrop.

NB: For the placement phase students are likely to be placed individually at lodges and reserves in the local area and further afield.
FGASA Professional Field Guide Course: Students who want to do the 50 week FGASA course, which includes the 6 months work placement, must be between the ages of 21 and 39 years old. This is due to PDP (Public Drivers Permit) regulations in South Africa which you can only get after the age of 21. They will also need to have their manual driving license with substantial valid manual driving experience. Students, 18 – 20, or older than 39 can apply for the 23 week FGASA Course. Applicants should also read and speak fluent English and have the equivalent of their matric qualification.
Introductory Field Guide and Wildlife Career Course: All applicants must be 18+ and hold a full manual driving license with substantial valid manual driving experience. Applicants should also read and speak fluent English and have the equivalent of their matric qualification.
Back-Up Trails Guide Course: 12 day course applicants must be current Bushwise students doing the Back-Up Trails Course as part of an add on to the FGASA Professional Field Guide Course. 22 Day course applicants must have the following three SASSETA units standards through a recognized training provider, US117705 – Knowledge of firearms control act, US119651 – handle and use a manually operated rifle or carbine and US123519 – handle and use a manually operated rifle or carbine for business purposes. In addition to this they will be require FGASA level 1 paid up member and be over the age of 18.
The Limpopo province has hot wet summers, often reaching temperatures above 36C and cold dry winters, dropping to as low as 3C at night.
