Karongwe Campus

Karongwe Campus

Karongwe Research Station is the campus for students on our Practical Conservation Management Course (6/12 months) and Conservation Short Course (2-24 weeks).

Located in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve in Limpopo, close to Hoedspruit, this research station borders the famous Greater Kruger region and the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere.

The scenery is a beautiful mix of open bushveld and winding river systems, with the peaks of the Drakensberg escarpment seen in the distance.

This Big Five reserve is a living classroom where iconic African wildlife roam freely throughout the reserve. With active conservation at its core, the landscape is carefully preserved to support a variety of birdlife and mammal species, including elephants, lions, and diverse plains game.

Facilities

Accommodation is in large, shared dorm-style rooms with shared bathroom facilities. The station is solar-powered, helping to reduce environmental impact while supporting day-to-day operations in the reserve.

When you want to relax, there are hammocks, a swing chair, and a projector for movies and documentaries. The base also includes a volleyball court, footballs, skipping ropes, weights, and yoga mats, along with board games, card games, and books.

Wi-Fi is available on base, so you can stay connected, study, or do research, and some areas also have limited cellphone reception. The base is contained within electrified game fences, with staff on site 24/7 for safety and support.
