    Our alumni

Emma Jenkins – “Emma did her 6 month work placement at Siyafunda, a company who assists Makalali Private Game Reserve with animal research and monitoring. Emma was only there a few months and was offered a permanent position as Volunteer Co-ordinator. Her previous studies, hard work, connection to volunteers and love for the bush was evident and this helped her get a permanent job offer. She has since been promoted to Science Officer & Senior Facilitator and assists with all aspects of managing Siyafunda together with the owner, other staff and current Bushwise student, Sam Adams. ‘Bushwise opened doors for me into the industry and helped me gain confidence. I used to be really shy and awkward speaking in front of people.”

Jason Kipling – My placement was at Sheppard Tree Lodge in the Pilanesberg, where I was hired permanently and stayed for almost a year. Since my placement, I have worked all over South Africa, both as a permanent guide and a freelance guide. From the Sabi sands – to Hluhluwe – Imfolozi – to the Timbavati and Klaserie to name but a few. I now have almost 7 year’s working experience as a Field Guide.

Cal Butler – I joined Bushwise Class of January 2017 after changing my career from the finance sector. The course was a fantastic introduction into the field guiding industry. What I loved most about it was being surrounded by like minded friends, having experienced and passionate trainers that want you to excel, a classroom environment in which to cover all aspects of the bush and daily game drives to learn all the practical aspects around guiding. After completing my practical placement period I was able to pursue my dream and now work at Leopard Hills in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

    Testimonials

    Greg Moran from South Africa

“I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and learned a great deal. I thought being in the bush my whole life, I would have known a lot, but what I have learned here, I could never have anywhere else. Excellent trainers and great friendly staff – always ready to help and make this probably the best experience I have ever had. For that, I am so grateful to Bushwise!”

    Lukas Pfaudler from Germany

“I was dreaming of Africa since I was a little boy. My biggest wish was to experience the amazing wildlife of Africa, not just out of a vehicle or a movie. Bushwise made this dream come true and offered so much more.”
